Interestingly, the levels of total TFEB normalized to actin were reduced in macrophages infected for 4 h with late-log phase Salmonella, indicating that under specific conditions, Salmonella can repress TFEB expression or promote its turnover (Fig. 5A, C, and D), consistent with Salmonella infection of murine bone marrow-derived primary macrophages (33).
