Importantly, Figure 5F shows a high degree of connections and co-variation between upregulated genes linked to TNF-α and NFkB pathways (shown in red) and downregulated genes associated with contractility sarcomere assembly (shown in blue) confirming that the activation of inflammatory pathways, at least in part via TNF-α is directly involved in the loss of contractility observed in cardiomyocytes treated with severe COVID-19 sera.
