In recent years, inhibitors of the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), including alirocumab and evolocumab, have been available for the treatment of patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or familial hypercholesterolemia whose LDL-C levels remained elevated despite conventional therapy.
