ANRIL is encoded in the same locus of chromosome 9 that encodes the key tumor suppressor genes CDKN2A and CDKN2B. Prior research has highlighted associations between ANRIL and a range of pathological conditions such as atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and obesity(Razeghian-Jahromi et al. 2022). Here, CDKN2B-AS1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
