Septin 7 has also been identified as a factor that binds to the CALB2 promoter region, resulting in decreased calretinin expression in mesothelioma cell lines.24 Septin 7 is a GTP-binding protein that is involved in cytokinesis, cytoskeleton organization and other cellular processes.24,55 It was also implicated in calcium homeostasis.56 Several studies also reported that septin 7 plays an important role in cancer development, especially glioma.55,56 In our study, SEPTIN7 rs3801339 was not significantly associated with MM susceptibility or with serum calretinin levels. The gene discussed is SEPTIN7; the disease is glioma.
