ECs overexpressing KLF2 induced the production of miRNA143/145 that are then delivered to VSMCs via EVs and depress the target genes expression to reduce atherosclerosis, and these target genes come from the research reports and target prediction including ELK1 (ETS transcription factor ELK1), KLF4 (Kruppel-like factor 4), CAMK2d (calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase type II subunit delta), CFL1 (cofilin 1), PHACTR4 (phosphatase and actin regulator 4), SSH2 (slingshot protein phosphatase 2) and MMP3 (matrix metallopeptidase 3) [105]. This evidence concerns the gene ELK1 and atherosclerosis.
