The locus most frequently mutated in familial melanoma (accounting for ∼20% of familial cases) is CDKN2A (Goldstein and Tucker 2001, Goldstein et al. 2006) which encodes for 2 different proteins (CDN2A/p16INK4/MTS1/CDK4I and p14ARF) (Haluska et al. 2006). Here, CDKN2A is linked to familial melanoma.
