McConeghy and colleagues evaluated allergy documentation for more than 10 million admissions to any VHA facility between 2000 and 2014, the largest VHA study to date.15 They found allergy to one or more members of the penicillin-class of antibiotics to be the most frequently reported (13%), followed by opiates (9.1%), angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (5.7%), and sulfonamides (5.1%). This evidence concerns the gene ACE and Allergy.
