The leaves of sugar beet infected by C. beticola also contained two isoforms of another acid chitinase (SP1 and SP2), which are similar to SE1 and SE2. Infected sugar beet plant leaves had very high levels of BvSP2 (B. vulgaris SP2) gene expression, however, BvSP2 protein accumulation was only found in the vicinity of the infection sites (Nielsen et al., 1994). This evidence concerns the gene CHIA and infection.
