Among the animal models that resemble multiple sclerosis, there is the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model, where males have been reported to show alterations at the hypothalamic level, such as a down-regulation of GnRH mRNA and a decrease in testosterone resulting from a down-regulation of Star, Cyp11a1, Cyp17a1, and Hsd3b1/2 mRNA expression and StAR and Cpy11a1 protein expression in interstitial testicular cells (Milosevic et al., 2021, 2020). This evidence concerns the gene STAR and multiple sclerosis.
