Importantly, INAVA also has IBD-related variants according to the GWAS catalogue, namely rs12131796, rs35730213, rs55838263, rs7554511 and rs905634, and the genes CYTH1 and CDH1, coding for proteins downstream to INAVA, also have IBD-related variants according to the GWAS catalogue: rs17736589 for CYTH1, and rs16958356 and rs16958356 for CDH1. Therefore, gut epithelial adherens junctions seem to be heavily affected by genetic variation. This evidence concerns the gene CDH1 and inflammatory bowel disease.
