investigated abicipar, a 14 kDa recombinant protein linked to PEG, which is currently undergoing phase III trials for neovascular AMD treatment.[83] The phase I/II dose‐escalation studies demonstrated the efficacy of abicipar for diabetic macular edema (DME) and wet AMD.[84, 85] The pharmacokinetic data from the DME study showed that abicipar remains in the aqueous humor at levels significantly above the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) for at least 12 weeks, requiring less frequent injections than anti‐VEGF antibodies. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is wet macular degeneration.
