Interestingly, besides passive penetrance of the [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] in cells, expression of Cu-dependant transporters, that some can be further increased by hypoxia (as CTR1, DMT1), could contribute to [64Cu][Cu(ATSM)] uptake in tumors, as already shown in the previous studies on glioblastoma [26, 62].
