While no significant change was noted in the expression of the IFITM-1 (p = 0.57; Figure 4b), IFI-16 (p = 0.99; Figure 4d) and BST-2 (p = 0.11; Figure 4e) genes, a significantly reduced expression of the APOBEC-3G (p = 0.03; Figure 4a) and IFITM-3 (p = 0.002; Figure 4c) genes was noted in the progressors as compared to the LTNPs, indicating that the reduced antiviral activity could be partially involved in enhancing the course of HIV infection among the progressors. Here, BST2 is linked to HIV infectious disease.
