In CAEBV, the transcripts of EBV latent infection genes are detected in T or NK cells [2], and the in vitro EBV infection of human T-cell lines with the enforced expression of CD21, which is the EBV receptor in B-lineage cells, leads to the production of a macrophage-activating cytokine, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α [8]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and disease arising from reactivation of latent virus.
