Arakawa et al. generated ERAP-1 knockout melanoma cell lines (WM793 or WM278) by CRISPR/Cas-9 genome editing and revealed that the cell surface expression of HLA-C*06:02 decreased significantly, leading to a lower density of self-peptide (ADAMTSL5)/HLA-C*06:02 complexes on the cell surface of the autoimmune target cells, thus reducing CD8+ T cell autoreactivity [31]. This evidence concerns the gene HLA-C and melanoma.
