Amelio et al. reported that depletion of p53 mutants in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) suppresses the HIF-induced upregulation of ECM components, such as collagen type VIIa1 and laminin-γ2, resulting in the reduced tumorigenic potential of NSCLC cells, which in concert with HIF-1 affects ECM synthesis and the tumor microenvironment to promote cancer progression [32,33]. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
