OCA2 and infection: These include the B.1.1.7 variant detected in the United Kingdom in October 2020, the B.1.351 variant identified in South Africa in October 2020, the P.1 variant identified in Brazil in December 2020, the B.1.617 which emerged in India in 2021, accounting for a massive loss of lives due to its severity and high transmissibility and the highly transmissible Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) which emerged in the latter half of 2021, resulting in many infections and sub-mutations [38,39].
