Subsequently, bioinformatics-based screening was employed to investigate the expressions of methyltransferases and demethylases (METTL3/14, WTAP, FTO, and ALKBH5) in human colorectal cancer, and we found only METTL3, the catalytic core of methyltransferases, showed significant upregulation in cancerous tissues compared with normal tissues (Fig. 1B and Fig S1A). This evidence concerns the gene FTO and colorectal cancer.
