Makharadze et al. recently reported, in an IRON-CLAD phase 3 randomized placebo-controlled ferric carboxymaltose trial that included 244 actively treated cancer patients, that the rate of patients who had an increased hemoglobin (Hb) level of ≥0.5 g/dL between the 3rd and 18th week (primary endpoint) was significantly higher in the intervention arm (50.8% vs. 35.3%; p = 0.01). The gene discussed is GSTM1; the disease is cancer.
