CCL2 and cancer: Interestingly, within the differentially expressed protein-coding genes (DE-mRNAs), we found genes involved in the tumoral microenvironment, such as CCL2, a chemokine involved in the tumoral progression of various cancers by modulating the tumor microenvironment [57], promoting cellular growth, migration, angiogenesis, and the recruitment of immunosuppressive cells through its activation at different stages of tumorigenesis.
