During the secondary exploratory analysis we noted the following 3 findings worthy of future investigation: (1) baseline dysregulation of the extrinsic pathway of fibrin clot formation, ligand receptors, PI3K signaling, as well as visceral fat deposits and metabolic pathways, were most often associated with severe disease in patients with COVID-19, (2) a reduction in CK-MB/CK-MM during the initial 2 weeks of COVID-19 infection is associated with severe disease, and an (3) increasing HSP 70 and Retinol-binding protein 4 are associated with severe disease. The gene discussed is RBP4; the disease is COVID-19.
