From a pathophysiological point of view, 59 differentially expressed genes were found in intermediate monocytes in women living with HIV, and these included known atherosclerosis genes such as the liver X receptor gene nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group H member 2 (NR1H2), Nexilin (NEXN), TNF Receptor Associated Factor 1 (TRAF1), Toll-like Receptor 7 (TLR7), and Galectin 3 Binding Protein (LGALS3BP) [21]. The gene discussed is LGALS3BP; the disease is atherosclerosis.
