The MTRAP protein from Plasmodium falciparum has been found to interact with its receptor on erythrocytes, semaphorin-7A (CD108) [22], strengthening the evidence for the role of MTRAP in erythrocyte invasion by merozoites and in turn accelerating research on MTRAP in the contexts of other human malaria parasites that have been mostly mysterious thus far. The gene discussed is SEMA7A; the disease is malaria.
