In the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), targeting specific proteins implicated in the disease's development, such as glutamine: fructose‐6‐phosphate amidotransferase (GFAT), protein tyrosine phosphatase 1β (PTP1‐β), RBP‐4 (retinol binding protein‐4), α‐amylase, and α‐glucosidase, has shown promise (Murphy & Holder, 2000; Sun et al., 2017; Vyas et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene PTPN1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
