This is contrasted by a striking result indicating that CenH3 from Plasmodium falciparum (the parasite that causes malaria in humans) could functionally complement budding yeast temperature-sensitive Cse4 mutant strain at the nonpermissive temperature (Verma and Surolia 2013), despite lacking the Cse4N-tail and the HFD sharing only ∼59% identity and less similarity (∼71%) than those of human (∼76%) and P. angusta (∼84%) (see Supplementary Fig. 1g for multiple-sequence alignment of the HFD). This evidence concerns the gene CENPA and malaria.
