More recently, other high-penetrance melanoma genes have been identified, such as breast cancer 1 (BRCA1)-associated protein 1 (BAP1), with definitive evidence for association with melanoma and other tumors and other potential melanoma-predisposing genes related to telomere maintenance–protection of telomeres 1 (POT1), ACD, TERF2IP, and telomere transcriptase reverse (TERT) [16,17,18], which still lack validation from other studies. The gene discussed is TERF2IP; the disease is melanoma.
