INS and diabetic ketoacidosis: The Dapagliflozin Evaluation in Patients With Inadequately Controlled Type 1 Diabetes (DEPICT-1; NCT02268214) (Dandona et al., 2017; Dandona et al., 2018) and DEPICT-2 (NCT02460978) (Mathieu et al., 2018) phase 3, placebo-controlled clinical trials reported improved glycemic control as well as reductions in total daily insulin doses following treatment with dapagliflozin as an adjunct to insulin in patients with T1D, although with an increased risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (Jendle et al., 2021).
