The differences of the following variables between the hepatic encephalopathy and non-hepatic encephalopathy groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05) : age, diabetes mellitus (DM), ascites, gastrointestinal bleeding, spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, blood potassium (K), alkaline transaminase (AKP), glutamic aminotransferase (AST), and glutamic alanine transaminase (ALT) .
