CCL5 and infection: If in fact RANTES is responsible, even in part, for recruitment of VAMs in infection, it is conceivable, given our study findings, that the observed differences in survival could be related to not only how microglia function to combat coagulopathy and function to maintain homeostasis, but also to the ability to recruit these immune effector cells to the vasculature, which serves as a central intersecting hub for coagulopathy and neuroinflammation.
