CRP and systemic lupus erythematosus: Simultaneously, very high levels of metalloproteinase and altered production of cytokines and C-reactive protein have been reported in association with SLE.9,10 Moreover, the periodontal disease also increases the serum concentrations of C-reactive protein, fibrinogen, and cytokines associated with atherosclerotic conditions.9,11 However, the association between periodontal disease and SLE is not still well understood.
