In light of the recent CANTOS study, which demonstrated that patients treated with Canakinumab (a monoclonal antibody IL-1β) had a significantly lower incidence of clinical outcomes such as atherosclerosis-related myocardial infarction and stroke, and showed a significant association between the effect of canakinumab and the decreased levels of IL-627, it was suggested a synergistic role of IL-1β and IL-6 in atherosclerosis progression28. Here, IL1B is linked to atherosclerosis.
