Global cancer statistics have depicted a high incidence and mortality from breast carcinoma in Europe and America.1 A meta-analysis of ten studies on cancer incidence in Pakistan revealed the prevalence of breast cancer in females ranged from 20 to 50% with an overall prevalence of 31%.2 The third highest incidence of breast cancer for any Asian population is reported in Karachi.3 Over-expression of HER2/neu protein or amplification of HER2/neu gene has been detected in 30% to 40% of breast carcinomas and is associated with poor prognosis and decreased survival.4,5. The gene discussed is ERBB2; the disease is cancer.
