A total of four miRNA targets, ADAM10, COL1A1, CTNNBIP1, and STAT3, were chosen for validation in lung and liver samples, based on their functions in tissue regenerative processes in these organs, such as in (pulmonary) fibrosis after trauma, regulation of the inflammatory response, Wingless-related integration site signalling pathway (Wnt-signalling), and liver- and alveolar-tissue homeostasis. This evidence concerns the gene COL1A1 and pulmonary fibrosis.
