The patient was admitted to the hospital as a case of left-sided pneumonia complicated with pleural effusion based on initial imaging studies that shows obliteration of the left costophrenic angle and left lower lobe opacification (Figure 1), and based on initial labs, she had leukocytosis with white blood cells (WBC) of 17 (10∗9/L) and C-reactive protein (CRP) of 257 mg/dL.
