Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors are anti-cancer therapeutics that have proven efficacy in preclinical models of many neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and myocardial infarction (Mekhaeil et al. 2022; Gariani et al. 2017; Sachdev et al. 2019; Sriram et al. 2014). This evidence concerns the gene PARP1 and Parkinson disease.
