In regards to the upregulated BST2 expression, Pan et al. (2012) [38] demonstrated the ability of BST2 to control DENV release from human hepatoma cells, and Herrlein et al. (2022) [39] showed an intense increase in BST2 mRNA expression during ZIKV infection, although it does not culminate in increased BST2 protein due to enhanced lysosomal degradation, as a viral escape strategy.
