CLRs, such as dectin-1 (CLEC7A) and dectin-2 (CLEC6A), are the main receptor group mediating antifungal recognition (Plato et al., 2015), and loss of their shared signalling adaptor molecule, CARD9 (Box 2), results in heightened susceptibility to fungal infections (Drummond et al., 2018; Gross et al., 2006).
