The rd10 mouse is a model of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa in which a mutation in the Pde6b gene (which encodes the enzyme phosphodiesterase in rod cells) causes degeneration of photoreceptor cells starting at around postnatal day 18 (Chang et al., 2002). The gene discussed is PDE6B; the disease is autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa.
