MAPT and frontotemporal dementia: The FTLD-tau patient showed overall greater and more widespread neurodegeneration compared to the FTLD-TDP patient with a prominent loss of projection neurons and myelin/axonal loss associated with long-range tracts including severe atrophy of the corpus callosum and interlobar fiber bundles such as the uncinate and longitudinal fasciculi known to contribute to a multitude of language and behavioral impairments in FTD (63–66).
