TLR4 and enteritis: Since C. jejuni-LOS constitutes the main enteropathogenic molecule inducing campylobacteriosis upon oral infection [15], it is tempting to speculate that an inhibitory effect of the respective compounds on the LOS-induced TLR-4-mediated pathway was the most likely underlying mechanism for the alleviated diarrheal symptoms during C. jejuni-induced enteritis, the dampened colonic T cell responses, and only basal pro-inflammatory cytikine secretion in MLN being observed in combination-treated mice.
