Given the evidence that human and murine adipocytes after hypoxia induction secrete several adipocytokines, including leptin, visfatin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and IL-6 [19,20], as well as the observations that overnutrition or a positive energy balance favors the ER stress [21,22,23], it is likely that ER stress could act as a co-player with lipotoxic stress to amplify metabolic inflammation.
