HAVCR1 and acute kidney injury: Other useful markers that evaluate the progression of CKD have been proposed, like cystatin C; neutrophil-gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL); kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1), also considered one of the links between acute kidney injury and CKD; or liver-type fatty acid binding protein (L-FABP), which is correlated with the tubulointerstitial damage, but also claimed to be even more sensitive than proteinuria in predicting the progression of CKD, although with a lower specificity [19,20,21,22].
