VIM and COVID-19: The enzymes present in Enterobacteriaceae of the type KPC (Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase), NDM (New Delhi Metallo-beta-lactamase), OXA (oxacillinases), IMP (imipenemases), and VIM (Verona integron-encoded metallo-beta-lactamase) are the most frequently detected worldwide [26,38], and due to the presence of COVID-19, in many South American countries there was an increase in the incidence of resistance to carbapenems, which can be attributed to the increase in the indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics [8,42].
