Previous works, including ours, support the idea that local inflammatory mediators that can be measured in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) or systemic inflammatory mediators that can be measured in serum, such as IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-10, may contribute to periodontal soft- or hard-tissue destruction in individuals with T2DM [13,14,15]. The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
