Eldafashi et al. [61] reported that programmed cell death protein 1 (PDCD1) SNPs (rs7421861 and rs10204525) were specifically associated with NAFLD-HCC risk, regardless of cirrhosis, although PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 SNPs were associated with both the progression to cirrhosis and NAFLD-HCC development. The gene discussed is PNPLA3; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
