The first long-term culture of prostate cancer from biopsy specimens and circulating tumor cells occurred in 2014 when the authors reported the first fully molecularly characterized organoids, which recapitulated the molecular diversity of prostate cancer subtypes, including TMPRSS2-ERG fusion, SPOP mutation, SPINK1 overexpression, and CHD1 loss [37]. This evidence concerns the gene TMPRSS2 and prostate cancer.
