Fukao et al. analyzed tubular injury markers (U-NAG, L-FABP, u-B2microglobulin, u-alfa-1-microglobuline) in patients with SARS-CoV2 infection without AKI: patients with severe infection (defined as need of oxygen therapy) had significantly higher tubular damage markers and levels of IL-6, suggesting the possible contributing role of cytokine storm in tubular injury [12].
