Although its role in cancer has been poorly explored, a detailed analysis in ‘The Cancer Genome Atlas’ (TCGA) revealed that the downregulation of TRPML3/MCOLN3 is associated with a relatively better survival in several types of cancers, including adrenocortical, breast invasive, uterine corpus endometrial, kidney renal clear cell, and kidney papillary cell carcinomas, colon, lung, lung squamous cell, rectal, and stomach adenocarcinomas, pheochromocytoma, and paraganglioma, thymoma, and uterine carcinosarcoma [204]. Here, MCOLN3 is linked to hereditary pheochromocytoma-paraganglioma.
