To this end, we generated two inducible cardiomyocyte-specific transgenic mouse models to modulate mitochondrial AKT1 signaling with the aims of (1) characterizing the cardiomyopathy induced by inhibiting mitochondrial AKT1 signaling and (2) demonstrating that enhancing mitochondrial AKT1 signaling has a protective role against DCM. Here, AKT1 is linked to familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
